I Won't Hold You Back - Toto - Piano Cover

Some playing advice:

  • The grace note in the intro and in the verses must be very fast, quite imperceptible (see below, right hand, bar #1).
  • In the verses, I am not 100% sure of the chords' positions (if root or inverted). For this reason, I have played them not always in the same way. The image below (right hand, bar #9, and #55) shows you the chord position I choose for the first and second verse (left side) and the chord position chosen for the third verse (right side).
  • I had another doubt concerning the verses. I am not sure if the piano plays octaves between the lyric lines or not. Without a solution, I have made a little change playing the verses not in the same way. The image below (right hand, bars #11 and #27) shows you how I played this part in the first and third verse (bar n.11). For the second verse, I have played octaves instead (bar n.27):
  • Starting from the second chorus, the strings play a great part in this song and I have arranged them for piano (where possible...). The notes with an up stem are piano notes, the ones with a down stem are Strings notes and are played by the left hand starting from the indication L.H.:
  • The guitar solo is probably the hardest part of the song. It is the hardest part because I mixed guitar notes (played in octaves) with strings notes (also played in octaves).
Sometimes the right hand needs the help of the left hand, which plays the bass note and one of the strings' notes marked in the transcription with L.H.
As these are tenth intervals, simply do not play these notes if you have small hands.

  1. Thanks for posting all of these great songs. I bought this one and will buy the others once I get done working on it.

What tool do you use for composing? A few of the passages are a bit difficult for me so I'm making them a little simpler for my ear. I'd like to make the changes for my own files if it's possible.
